Christmas in Kaysersberg

Explore the Christmas market, old-town streets and fortified bridge through my walks, then plan a visit of your own.

What makes it special to me

Why I love Kaysersberg at Christmas

I walked into the historic centre along Rue des Forgerons, and arriving at Pont Fortifié stopped me in my tracks. The bridge, the water, the colourful half-timbered houses, and all the sounds and smells of Christmas—it was a delight for the senses. Kaysersberg is compact, but the whole walk feels like a Christmas postcard, with as much to enjoy between the stalls as in the market itself.

Walk the street in both directions—it’s worth it. The houses and decorations look different on the way back, and around the fortified bridge over the Weiss there’s another photo waiting whichever way you turn. For me, that mix of bridges, water and Christmas lights makes the historic centre feel like a fairy tale.

2026 · Four market weekends

Make it a Christmas weekend

The main market opens Friday to Sunday. Plan your visit around one of these four weekends.

  • 27–29 November
  • 4–6 December
  • 11–13 December
  • 18–20 December
Opening hours
10am–8pm, Friday through Sunday on market weekends.
Where to go
Cour de l’Arsenal and behind Sainte-Croix church, in the old town.
Getting there
Take a Christmas Shuttle from Colmar, or use the weekend park-and-ride.

My timing tip: I’d aim for around 2–5pm, so you can see the town in daylight and stay as the Christmas lights come on. I spent most of the day here filming on 12 December 2025, but you don’t need a whole day just to enjoy the market. Two hours to a half-day leaves room to explore at your own pace.

Also in 2026: The Christmas exhibition’s theme is “Memories of our childhood winters.” Look at the official visitor information below if you’d like to include it in your visit.

These dates cover the main Christmas market; other events may have different hours.

Getting to the market

Christmas Shuttles to Kaysersberg

Coming from Colmar or driving yourself? Choose the option that fits your day.

I arrived by car at about 11am on a Friday in December 2025. Traffic was heavy, and every car park I could see looked full. I eventually found a space on Rue de la Flieh and walked in along Rue des Forgerons. Finding that space took some looking, so I’d plan your arrival before setting off.

From Colmar & the other markets

Lines 1 and 2 connect Colmar, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé in opposite directions. They run Friday–Sunday, 27 November–20 December 2026: hourly on Fridays and every 30 minutes at weekends.

Kaysersberg stop
Route de Kientzheim, beside the Hiltenfinck garage.
Day ticket
€17 for unlimited travel across the network; under-12s ride free but still need a booked free ticket. Tickets are sold online.

Board in Colmar at the train station. Ticket sales open 12 November 2026 at noon (CET). Check your last bus before heading into the market.

Driving? Use the park-and-ride

This local shuttle brings you into Place Gouraud at the other end of town from the Christmas Shuttles arriving from Colmar.

On market Saturdays and Sundays, parking costs €4 per vehicle and the shuttle into town is free.

  • Hinteralspach–Mauffrey
  • DS Smith, 77 route de Lapoutroie
  • Carrefour Contact, 63 route de Lapoutroie

Buses run every 15 minutes, 10am–8:30pm, to Place Gouraud at the upper end of the town centre.

Driving on Friday? The local park-and-ride shuttle only runs on Saturdays and Sundays. Look for the regular car parks at Porte Basse, Schweitzer or Place Gouraud, and allow extra time to find a space. From Place Gouraud, you can join my walk near the medieval gate and bridge.

A little more about the town

Kaysersberg questions & answers

Do I have to climb to the castle to follow the walk?

No. The main walk stays in town; the castle climb and vineyard loop are optional extras. The distance shown beneath the map is for the town walk only.

Where can I find toilets along the walk?

Choose Useful stops on the map to see the WC markers. I’ve marked toilets near Place de la Mairie, the fortified bridge, Place Gouraud and the Collège parking area, using the town map I photographed during my visit.

What are the streets like for walking?

There are cobbled surfaces along the walk, so I’d wear comfortable shoes with a good grip. The castle adds a climb with steps, and the longer return goes along a vineyard track. The clips and 360° photo let you take a closer look at the town before deciding what suits you.

What can I look for at the farmers’ market?

Look for local cheese, charcuterie and syrups at the market by the town hall. I’d also leave time for the bakeries and pastry shops as you explore town. Wine tasting is another option in the area, though I didn’t try it during my visit.

Do both shuttle services arrive at the same place?

No. The Christmas Shuttles from Colmar arrive on the Route de Kientzheim side, near the start of my suggested walk. The local park-and-ride shuttle arrives at Place Gouraud, at the other end of town. From there, join the walk around the medieval gate and bridge—you don’t need to cross the whole town just to start at stop 1.

Is the Christmas market open every day?

The main market opens Friday to Sunday on the four weekends listed above. If the stalls are the reason for your visit, plan for one of those dates. Other exhibitions and events may have different opening days.

My Christmas filming trip around Alsace

Kaysersberg was one stop on my December trip

I filmed Kaysersberg on 12 December 2025, spending most of the day exploring and recording the town. It was part of a wider Christmas trip through Alsace, with stops in Switzerland and Germany too. These walks can help you decide where else you’d like to go.

  1. Basel
  2. Kaysersberg
  3. Ribeauvillé
  4. Riquewihr
  5. Colmar
  6. Freiburg
  7. Strasbourg

This is the order I filmed the towns, rather than a route you need to follow. Pick the places that appeal to you and leave time to enjoy each one.
